The UGA teachers were ready for a new look on their make-up sheets. Who better to turn to than the students. Five students were up for the challenge of creating make-up sheets. Thanks to Jaycie, Carlee, J'Kaylen, Cadence, and Payton for your creativity, hard work, and wonderful designs. The winning design will be used this year in the UGA. Congratulations to Payton M.

THE WAIT IS OVER... TEST RESULTS ARE IN

The wait is finally over!!!! The students in grades 3-6th recently found out the test results to the ACT Aspire test that was given in April. Mrs. Thomas and Mrs. Rigdon met with each classroom to go over their scores. The students plotted their scores and were able to see if they were ready, close, or in need of support. Many of the students were pleased with their results, while some realized that they needed to put forth a little more effort. Some of the students noticed that they were only 1-2 points away from reaching their goal. R. L. Young students came up 5% in text complexity this year. Thank you, Mrs. Thomas & Mrs. Rigdon for explaining the results to us and why they are so important to us.

GOLDEN TICKET WINNER

JaQuavion L. has reason to smile.  He recently found a GOLDEN TICKET hidden in the AR book he checked out.  Mrs. Taylor, our librarian, hid several golden tickets in fiction chapter books.  She offered the students a cool prize if they read the book and passed the test.  Now all of the students are looking for GOLDEN TICKETS.

A special visitor in the UGA

One of our own 6th grade students, LaQuez W., recently meet Talladega City Board of Education member, Juanita McClellan.  He invited her to come to our school and have lunch with him. Guess what?  She excepted his invitation and visited R.L.Young today.
Mrs. McClellan visited the UGA classrooms and explained the responsibilities and goals of the board members and superintendent.  She explained to them that one of her main goals was to make sure that they were getting the best education possible.  She also told them to stay focused and positive.  She told them not dwell on negativity or the past because they were the faces of the future.
The students enjoyed hearing her comments.   She explained to them that each and every one of them had a special gift that no one could take from them. "LIFE is the real teacher.  You will have great things you encounter and disappointments. You must be willing to change . You need to have the right attitude and love yourself and others.  Every single person has some GREATNESS inside of them. Let everyone know your greatness. You were born for a purpose.  You have a special gift, and no one can do it exactly like you."
Mrs. McClellan ended by asking the students to help her spread the word about Talladega and all of its possibilities.  After talking with the students, Mrs. McClellan enjoyed a nice lunch and conversation with LaQuez.  THANK YOU, LAQUEZ & MRS. MCCLELLAN.
